Two Coasts

Two trips to the water in the same year — a crowded resort beach in April, a quiet rocky shoreline in September. Personal work, no client.

April — the busy beach

Pedal boats on trailers, bamboo flag poles, volleyball, stalls selling henna right up to the sand. The kind of beach that is entirely about the people on it.

A person in a bucket hat carrying a duffel walks away across a busy beach past bamboo flag poles, moored boats and beachfront stalls

People play beach volleyball on white sand in front of the painted "RENDEZVOUS" fence, with onlookers seated at a thatched hut
The volleyball never stopped.

September — the quiet one

Different coast entirely: coral rubble instead of soft sand, a concrete seawall, and nobody around. Overcast the whole time, which I didn't mind.

Coconut palms lean over a concrete seawall and small shoreline buildings beside an empty beach
The seawall.
